Mailing List Options
Read this page if you would like to understand options for how you will receive emails from the mailing list. Please keep in mind that as of March 2007, there are over 100 emails per day sent to the mailing list.
The following are options.
OPTION 1 - NORMAL
With the NORMAL option, you are subscribed to the mailing list. You can send email to the mailing list. You will receive every email sent to the mailing list (possibly over 100 per day). See also OPTION 5, below.
OPTION 2 - DIGEST - LARGE (no archive, no username/password)
With the DIGEST LARGE option, you will receive one or two emails a day. With the DIGEST LARGE option, each email will be rather large because the content of all emails will be in the single email (including pictures). The advantage of this option is that you do not need a username and password. The disadvantage is that your ISP may bounce large emails due to size limits and/or some email clients do not support the links that are created by this type of digest (hence content will be unreadable).
OPTION 3 - DIGEST - SMALL + ARCHIVE + USERNAME/PASSWORD
With the DIGEST SMALL option, you will receive one or two emails a day. With the DIGEST SMALL option, each email will be very small because it will contain links to content in the mailing list archive. The advantage is that the emails are small. The disadvantage is that you will need to obtain a user name and password from Todd and then must follow instructions on how to log into the archive. (See instructions.)
OPTION 4 - NO MAIL + ARCHIVE + USERNAME/PASSWORD
With the NO MAIL option, no email will be delivered to your account. You will still be subscribed to the list. The advantage is that if you are subscribed, you can still send email to the list and can access the mailing list archive. You will need to obtain a user name and password from Todd and then must follow instructions on how to log into the archive. (See instructions.)
OPTION 5 - AUTOMATIC EMAIL FILTER (OUTLOOK AND OUTLOOK EXPRESS)
With the AUTOMATIC EMAIL FILTER option, you can create a folder and an email filter in your email client that will automatically filter all emails into the folder. This allows you to separate the mailing list emails from your other normal emails. If you are interested in this, contact Todd and he will provide instructions for Outlook and Outlook Express. (If people request this option, Todd will post instructions on the website.) Other email clients support rules as well, but Todd cannot help you with those.
The advantage of this approach is that you will still receive all emails as normal and they will be automatically separated from your other emails. The disadvantage is that this will not help you if your email address had a limit on the size or number of emails that you are allowed to receive.
OPTION 6 - HOTMAIL, YAHOO, OTHER FREE ACCOUNT
With the OTHER FREE ACCOUNT option, you open a new, free account with some other service just for this mailing list. The advantage of this approach is that email is segregated from your normal email, you do not have to learn how to filter email and/or you do not have to obtain a username password or learn how to use the mailing list archive.
OPTION 7 - DO NOT SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE
With the DO NOT SUBSCRIBE option, you simply do not subscribe to the list (or ask Todd to take you off the list if you are on it). The disadvantage of this is that you cannot post to the list and you cannot access the mailing list archive. You will need to check the website periodically for updates.
